A baby with an oxygen machine enjoyed the benefit of a first-class flight to Philadelphia, thanks to the kindness of a traveler who gave up his seat.
Kelsey Zwick and her 11-month-old daughter Lucy were flying from Orlando to Philly, where the baby receives treatment for a severe lung disease, when an American Airlines flight attendant told the mom that a man at the front of the plane had asked to switch seats with them. Zwick took his offer.
“To the man in 2D. Today you were traveling from Orlando to Philly. I don’t know you, but I imagine you saw us somewhere,” Zwick wrote in her Facebook after their flight. She included a photo of the smiling baby on her lap in first class, with oxygen tubes in her nose. “We boarded the plane, got cozy in our window seat and made jokes to those around us about having to sit by my yelling-but-happy baby.”
“Not able to hold back tears, I cried my way up the aisle(过道) while my daughter laughed! She felt it too... real, pure, goodness,” she wrote.
Not having a chance to show thanks in the moment, she wrote, “Thank you. Not just for the seat itself but for noticing. For seeing us and realizing that maybe things are not always easy. For deciding you wanted to show an act of kindness to us. It reminded me how much good there is in this world. I can’t wait to tell Lucy someday. In the meantime, we will pay it forward. AA 588 passenger in seat 2D, we truly feel inspired by your generosity.”
As a result of her post, she then connected with the passenger. Zwick told Yahoo: “He was thanking me for (giving him) a birthday to remember. It was the best day.”

Dear Alcohol,
You’ve been around forever. I can remember all the pain you’ve caused for me.
Do you remember the night when you almost took my father’s life? I do. He loves you. Sometimes I think he loves you more than he loves me. He’s addicted to you, to the way you promise to rid him of his problems only to cause more of them. You just sat back and laughed as his car went spinning through the street, crashing into two other cars. He wasn’t the only one hurt by you that night.
Do you remember the night of my first high school party? You were there. My friends were intrigued by you. They treated you as if they were never going to see you again, drinking all of you that they could. I spent two hours that night helping my friends who had fallen completely. “I’m so embarrassed,” they said as I patted them on the back so that they could vomit (呕吐). “I’m sorry,” they said when I called taxies for them, walking them out and paying the drivers in advance. “This won’t happen again,” they said as they were sent to the hospital to have their stomachs pumped. Two 15-year-old girls slept in hospital beds that night thanks to you.
I wish you’d walk out of my life forever. Look at all the pain you’ve caused. Sure, you’ve made people happy too from time to time. But the damage you’ve caused in the lives of millions is inexcusable. Stop luring (引诱)the people I love. Stop hurting me, please!
Sincerely,
Anonymous

Some psychologists say that community art ── art made to be displayed free of charge in a particular community ── can make a big difference.
Unlike the random graffiti (涂鸦)that many people consider a headache, community art can bring people together and encourage respect. In the U.S. city of Philadelphia, for example, psychologists are doing a citywide project where mental health patients work with average people to paint murals (壁画). The aim of this project is to reduce the shame of mental illness and promote a new dialogue about people who struggle with these issues.
Art also makes neighborhoods more attractive and has a unique ability to open people up. Neighbors can share comments with one another about a recently painted mural, which can challenge their prejudices (偏见) and open their eyes to the world.
Community art can also pick up businesses. In Fort Smith, a town in the U.S. state of Arkansas, artists from around the globe came together to paint murals. One of the goals of the project was to expand the town’s cultural offerings in order to attract more visitors. Not only locals but also tourists were drawn to see the murals. The money they spent while visiting the town benefited local businesses.
Generous financial support is provided for community art projects in many cities and towns. In the UK, the Arts Council England has invested nearly half a million dollars in community art. Some of it, for example, has paid for a new exhibition space created inside an old plant in the town of Brierfield. In the U.S., an organization called the Knight Foundation has invested millions of dollars in community projects, including many that focus on art.
32.According to this text, who are the victims of the shame in Philadelphia?
A. Those who care for mental health patients.
B. Those who have studied mental health issues.
C. Those who suffer from mental health conditions.
D. Those who make mental health policies.
33. What can we infer about the benefit of a mural from the text?
A. It helps locals win national awards. B. It aids damaged structures.
C. It encourages people to communicate. D. It inspires mean behavior.
34. What does the text indicate about towns like Fort Smith?
A. They can profit from art economically. B. They provide inexpensive courses in art.
C. They’ve placed some restrictions on art. D. They borrow art from other communities.
35. How does the writer end this text about community art?
A. By showing its role in modern literature. B. By explaining why it has been attacked.
C. By comparing it with other entertainment. D. By discussing how it is being funded.

To help fight Covid-19, one of the most important things you can do is wear a mask in public, says William Schaffner, a professor at the Vanderbilt University School of Medicine. 36 . Try these smart fixes for common problems.
Glasses Getting Fogged Up
WHY: “The hot air from your breath escapes from the top of your mask and lands on the cooler surface of your glasses,” says Marie Budev, a specialist at the Cleveland Clinic.
HOW: Look for a mask with a metal wire sewn in that goes over the bridge of your
nose, and pinch it until it fits your nose shape. Another trick: 37 .
Mask Slipping Down

HOW: To make sure a mask fits you correctly. Adjust the mask around your ears so that the mask does not gap at the sides or top.
Difficulty Communicating
WHY: Even people with perfect hearing can struggle to understand others who are wearing a mask. “ 39 ,” says Douglas Hildrew, an ear, nose, and throat specialist at the Yale School of Medicine. It also blocks visual expressions, like whether a person is smiling or not.
HOW: “People assume that they just need to speak louder, but that’s not it—slow down and speak as deliberately as possible,” Hildrew says. 40 or learn to make a DIY version to allow for lip-reading at the Hearing, Speech & Deaf Center’s site, hsdc.org.
