Summer has finally started. I walked outside my house to smell the hot air of the summer of 2019. We were leaving for Panama City Beach in the 6-hour drive. I had never met the twelve cousins I have on my mom's side of the family before and I was kind of nervous to see them. Finally, we reached the Emerald Coast. The whole family of 18 people were all sharing one four-bed room house right on the water.
It was almost dinner time and by that time I had been observing the family. Everyone was running around the house yelling and trying to figure out dinner. It was only the first night and I already didn't like this family. After dinner, everyone went to bed. I was glad it was bedtime because now I could get some peace and quiet.
The next morning I got up before everyone else. I looked out of the giant window at the ocean. I watched carefully as the waves crashed against the sand and watched early risers hanging up their beach towels. All I wanted to do was go to the beach. After about an hour I started getting ready to go to the beach with my mom.
Walking down the walkway to the beach. I had particles of sand on my feet. I was so excited that I ran to our beach chairs, threw on my glasses, and jumped into the ocean. After a moment in the water. I noticed my surroundings. I was alone in the area of water I was in. For the next few hours, I played in the sand. I made sandcastles, buried my feet, dug a hole, and made a wall. It was a lot of fun. I then heard my mom yell my name. I turned and looked at her and she told me it was time to go. We left the beach and went back up to our house for dinner.

The Notre Dame(巴黎圣母院)fire has been put out, but its spire and a large portion of its wooden roof have been damaged. The terrible destruction causes a sudden sharp pain to people around the world. “What a pity that we cannot see the damaged parts of the wonder anymore.”
But the good news is that there is at least one way of seeing them, namely through a video game called Assassin’s Creed: Unity. In this game, the player can travel to one city after another and enter the buildings exactly like what they are in reality, and see Notre Dame as it was before the fire. Further, with virtual(虚拟的)reality technology, which is already quite mature, one can even look around the undamaged Notre Dame as if it is still there. Maybe digital(数字的)technology could help to better protect architectural cultural heritage.
The idea of making digital models of ancient buildings to save their data dates back to the 1990s and the necessary technology has continued to advance since then. By scanning the ancient buildings with lasers(激光), building 3D models with multiple images, as well as measuring everything precisely, engineers can make a copy as accurate as the real one.
As computers and smartphones are hugely popular, the digital model has great useful value. First, it allows tourists to feel the cultural relics without touching them. The virtual tour of Dunhuang Grottoes in Gansu Province is a good example of this as tourists can view the paintings without standing near them. Furthermore, it can make the digitized cultural relics more famous by spreading awareness about them via the Internet. In 2000, a virtual tour of the Great Wall became very popular at the Hannover World Expo, which increased the number of foreign tourists visiting the site in the following years. Above all, it preserves all the information of the cultural relics.
Of course, however precise a model is, it is not the original. Maybe we will have better technologies in the future, but the digital technology offers a practical way to preserve architectural cultural heritage at the moment.
8.What can we see about Notre Dame in the game?
A. The big fire B. Its wooden shape
C. Its original look D. The damaged Notre Dame
9.What will engineers do to create a digital copy of the ancient buildings?
A. Draw 3D models by hand B. Measure all the parts exactly
C. Take apart the ancient buildings D. Scan the photos of the buildings
10.How does the author prove the digital copy has vital practical importance?
A. By comparison B. By classification
C. By listing data D. By giving examples
11.What is the author’s attitude towards the present application of the technology?
A. Supportive B. Satisfied C. Worried D. Indifferent

Pablo Picasso was born on October 25 in Málaga, Spain in 1881. Taking after his father, Picasso shared a passion(热爱)for painting and art. Even though he wasn’t the best student in school, Picasso excelled at drawing. Noticing his amazing talent, Picasso’s father, an artist, taught him everything he knew. Before long, Picasso could paint and draw much better than his father. With this rich talent, Picasso paid less and less attention to his schoolwork and spent the majority of his day sketching and drawing in notepads and sketchbooks.
When he was a little bit older, Picasso moved twice and was accepted into two fine art programs. However, he didn’t care very much for the special techniques they taught and often wandered the streets by himself drawing the scenes around him. After moving to these two places, Picasso moved back home to Barcelona and decided that he would develop new techniques of art and painting based on what he saw.
Later, Picasso decided to move to Paris, France, where he began perfecting his own techniques of painting, drawing and other forms of art. His drawings, paintings, and art included pieces about sadness, poverty, classics and self portraits(自画像). One of his major types of work is called cubism(立体派), which includes art with all sizes of geometric shapes together on the piece of art. This type of art is very significant(重要的)because no other artists had come up with the idea before. Picasso decided to try something new, and as a result, cubism is widely accepted today as a classic style of art.
Picasso inspires us to always be thinking. He tells us to think outside the box and come up with fresh new ideas that can change the world. He surely plays a significant role in the art field.
