If there's one thing we can all agree on right now, it's that food has an unusual way of bringing people closer together. One woman in Gig Harbor,Washington, has done just that-and her efforts to feed her community with a traditional Italian dish in the period of COVID-19 has served up a massive dish of inspiration.
Brenner, like many others, was fired from her job at a menswear store in Washington due to the pandemic(流行病)。 But instead of letting that discourage her, she decided to make use of the extra time on her hands to help the elderly in her community. Since she found it difficult for the old people to arrange for grocery shopping, she volunteered to work for Instacart, a grocery delivery and pickup service.
She only spent two days working with the grocery delivery app, but during that time she realized that there was one item that shoppers ordered very frequently: frozen lasagna, an Italian dish. As someone with Sicilian family roots, she wasn't the biggest fan of this Italian meal. When Brenner delivered this order to a customer in his late 90s, he told her that he had not eaten fresh lasagna in more than 50 days. That inspired Brenner to make her family fresh lasagna based on her grandmother's recipe.
Once the lasagna was out of the oven, she did what most of us have been doing-snapped a picture of the mouthwatering meal and uploaded it on social media. But she also decided to do something special by offering to make freshly cooked lasagna and deliver it entirely free of charge to anyone who needed it.
So far, she has made more than 1,275 pans of lasagna for friends, neighbors, and anyone in need of a good fresh meal. Her cooking has given her the title of“Lasagna Lady" around the town.
24. Why did Brenner work for Instacart?
A. To make a living.
B. To help people in need.
C. To fight the pandemic.
D. To become a good volunteer.
25.What did Brenner do after talking to the old customer?
A. She visited her grandmother.
B. She posted his story on social media.
C.She developed an interest in Italian dishes.
D.She made the homemade fresh lasagna by herself.
26. What can we infer about Brenner from the text?
A. She is a cook.
B. She is selfless.
C. She loves taking pictures.
D. She is the owner of Instacart.
27. Which of the following can be the best title for the text?
A. A traditional Italian dish
B. Brenner's love for lasagna
C. Lasagna Lady's special dish
D. Food service during the pandemic

Creators say robot dolphins can swim happily in shopping mall display tanks and tolerate close contact that would usually be harmful to real animals. And they could soon be coming to aquariums(水族馆)in China.
A robot dolphin that can nod an answer to a child-thanks to the human operating it from a distance - might sound unappealing. But as marine(海洋的)parks worldwide face increasing pressure to give up exhibitions featuring real whales and dolphins, the creatures provide an appealing choice.
“The marine park industry has had a drop in income for over a decade due to the cost of live animals, but the public's hunger to experience these animals is still as strong as ever,” said Roger Holzberg, former creative director at the Walt Disney Company. “We believe it's time to reimagine this industry and that this approach can be more humane and more profitable.'”
But with a price tag of about £20.8 million per dolphin, the biggest barrier to the creators is proving to potential customers that the robotic sea creatures will be cheaper in the long run than the real ones. Li Wang, a business developer for Edge Innovation, the New Zealand-based company making out a case for the robots, said they did cost four times more than normal dolphins but would last longer.
Mike Wang, vice president at Red Star Macalline Group, said it had sponsored the first stage of the dolphins' development, and was considering founding a “lab” for their expansion in China.
The prototype(原型)for the dolphin weighs over 270 kg and can't be discerned from the real thing--the condition Red Star Macalline required for starting the project. The test audience were unable to guess the dolphin wasn't real.
Animal rights advocates also welcomed the change. Elisa Allen, the UK director for People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, said in a statement she hoped robot dolphins would replace real ones so that people could experience nature without harming them.
28. What do we know about the robot dolphins according to the text?
A. They can sense danger.
B. They look better than real ones.
C. They work under human control.
D. They make automatic responses.
29.What is Roger Holzberg trying to talk about in Paragraph 3?
A. The challenges marine parks are facing.
B. The possibility of creating robot dolphins.
C. An approach to the problems with sea animals.
D. The importance of developing robot dolphins.
30. What does the underlined word “discerned” in the last but one paragraph mean?
A. Recognized. B. Defended.
C. Transformed. D. Controlled.
31. Why did Elisa Allen support the application of robot dolphins?
A. It made more money for some organizations.
B. It served an environmentally valuable cause.
C. It helped make advances in robot technology.
D. It would replace real dolphins in the long run.

We all procrastinate (拖延)at some point or another in our lives. Some procrastinate more and some procrastinate less. Nevertheless, procrastination is a major barrier to staying productive and getting things done.
However, technological advancements are making everything possible.Speaking of that, new “anti-procrastination” smart glasses that can keep you from procrastinating by tracking your activities and providing personalized insights have been launched.
The glasses called "Specs" have been launched by a startup named Auctify, founded by engineering students at the University of Toronto.Specs use biosensors and patent-pending computer vision software to analyze what you're doing and they also warn you to pay attention if they catch you getting distracted(注意力分散的)。
Specs use machine learning-based algorithms(算法)to offer personalized real-time activity tracking. You can also set different goals for yourself through the Auctify desktop or mobile app.
For example, if you plan to spend more time studying and less time mindlessly on Instagram, you can specify this on the app accordingly. So,under the activities you want to avoid, you can add Instagram, Facebook and so on. Once done, Specs will inform you or send you audible (听得见的)signals through their built-in sound system if they find your focus move away from your target activities. Also, you can take calls and listen to music directly through Specs.
Other things that these new glasses are capable of doing include tracking your productivity and tracking your physical exercises with pulse oximetry sensors. Auctify says on its website that the data is safe with the in-app encryption(加密)settings and that you can also transform them into prescription glasses.
So,the glasses aren't just limited to dealing with your procrastination and instead serve various purposes. It's too early to comment on their performance without actually trying them, so all we can do right now is wait around and see the consumers' response to these smart glasses.
32. What are Specs used to do?
A. Collect the wearers' basic data.
B. Help protect the wearers' eyesight.
C. Help keep the wearers stay focused.
D. Remind the wearers of important things.
33. What will Specs do if they notice us less concentrated?
A. They will give advice through mobile apps.
B. They will play music immediately.
C. They will call out our names loudly.
D. They will send out a sound.
34. What can we infer about Specs according to the last but one paragraph?
A. They are multi-functional.
B. They are beautifully designed.
C. They are less likely to be preferred by doctors.
D. They aim to improve people's physical conditions.
35. Which word best describes the author's attitude to the smart glasses?
A. Positive. B. Objective. C.Disapproving. D.Scptical.

Our parents had a saying: “We want you kids to grow away, not go away.”But when the time came to test that view for the first time, it was harder than they imagined. The summer of 1969, my parents watched their oldest child grow away. Our big brother left with hiking shoes. His plan was to hitchhike(搭便车)across Canada.Beyond that, there were no plans.
Now it was just the four of us: my parents, my younger brother and me.Mom and Dad did not talk about my brother's absenc(离开)much, but his postcards were welcome arrivals.
In mid-July, my aunt who lived in Winnipeg called. My brother had visited her. My mom asked, “Is he okay? Did he say what his plans are?” As summer drew to a close, there was still no news. Then, in late August, my brother called to say he would be home that Friday. Mom sprang into action to welcome his son by preparing delicious foods. Our family had much to celebrate.
On Friday, my brother walked in the back door. He had longer hair anda big beard. Over his T-shirt he wore a piece of colourful cloth. “It's called a serape(拉丁美洲人用的披肩)”,he told us excitedly. Our brother was immediately welcomed with a rush of hugs and tears. After we chatted for a bit, Mom said we would help him wash his clothes. She suggested that he get
settled in and cleaned up. Supper would be at six.
When it came to washing my brother's serape, Mom paused. She observed its material and design. Moments later, she called Dad,who was working in a clothes factory. Shortly, four pieces of colorful material arrived. Then looking at my brother's serape's design, Mom made four quite similar serapes for her, Dad, me and my younger brother. At 6:00, the four of us gathered in the dining room.
注意:
1.续写词数应为150左右;
